Gartner Declares iPhone Ready for Business, Promises More Obvious Predictions
Analysts are like Tarot card readers with MBAs, making speculative predictions based on little more than the direction of the wind and bird migration patterns. They follow a similar marketing practice too - the first reading is free, but the second will cost you, and cost you. The brain trust at Gartner Research, a firm […]
Is This the Back of the 3G, Next-Gen iPhone?
Take this rumor with a grain of salt the size of your fist, but this is what some people are claiming is the back of the upcoming next-gen iPhone. It could very easily be a fake, but then again, you never know. What do you guys think? Do you like the glossy black or do you missed the two-tone design of the current model and the classy brushed metal? [iPod Observer via Boy Genius Report]

Think LoJack/Twitter for the Facebook. How cool/creepy would it be for people to know where you are all the time? Still in beta, it already has some neat settings like privacy, update intervals, and accuracy (joining coordinates together). You have to add the application first on Facebook, then you get a Repository URL, which dynamically generates […]

TypingWeb gains Safari compatiblity
The biggest barrier to effectively using your Mac (or your iPhone) isn’t processor speed or software compatibility — it’s poor typing speed. Who knew back at the invention of the manual typewriter that the QWERTY keyboard layout (alleged to have been designed to slow down typists and avoid jams) would still be our primary data interface more than a century later? Yes, we’ve got some other options now, but short of upgrading your RAM the best way to speed up your work is to simply learn to type.
To enhance that finger business, check out TypingWeb, which now offers a Safari-compatible (both for desktop and iPhone, as we originally noted here) and free set of typing drills. Using the service on my iPod touch, I discovered that my Blackberry-style two thumb technique was actually slowing me down compared to an index-finger approach that leveraged the word completion feature more effectively — who knew?
For a full-scale Mac typing tutor, the classic (not Classic — it runs in OS X now) choice is Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing, available on a cross-platform CD.

Simplify Media Mobile For iPhone Lets You Stream iTunes Libraries Over Wi-Fi
Simplify Media’s just released a new version of their Mobile suite for iPhone that lets you stream iTunes libraries from your friends across the internet. It works in much the same way the desktop version does. Load up Simplify Media on a desktop with a library that you want to share, then log into your Simplify Media Mobile on your iPhone (with Wi-Fi) and you can stream all of your and your friends’ music back over the air.
If you really want to stream on the go, without Wi-Fi, you could probably rig up a Wi-Fi internet connection sharing thing with a Windows Mobile phone as well.
We tested it over Wi-Fi and it streamed back all of Adam Pash’s songs without a problem (eventually). It crashed and hung the first couple times. [Simplify Media]

Walt Says 3G iPhone Coming in 60 Days
Walt Mossberg has confirmed what AT&T Mobility CEO Ralph de la Vega already hinted at CTIA: the iPhone will be 3G-capable “in 60 days.” Mossberg said it 6:53 into this Beet.tv feature. Knowing that it’s going to be one year after release, what De la Vega said, and the fact that Walt gets his mitts on the goods way before anyone else, it’s only logical to think he is right. We will discover it around June 4.
