AT&T Changes its Mind Again, No Hotspot Access for iPhone Users

AT&T has flip-flopped yet again on the issue of iPhone customers getting free access to AT&T hotspots. While yesterday the iPhone plans page clearly stated that access to the hotspots was included with all plans, that statement is now gone again. Hey, AT&T: why don’t you make up your minds and be clear about this? This is ridiculous. [AT&T via I4U]

Beta Beat: IntelliScreen for iPhone

Filed under: iPod Family, Beta Beat, iPhone

Really cool stuff today over at ModMyiPhone. The new IntelliScreen software customizes your “Slide to Unlock” screen allowing you to load widgets onto that otherwise unusued space. Options include listing calendar events, mail subjects, SMS messages, weather reports and RSS news feeds.

One note though about beta releases: We love them for the inspiration and early access. We hate them for causing possible endless reboot sequences. This release may cause fatal rebooting errors so proceed with care.

Thanks, Jonathan.

iPhone is ‘unavailable’ in UK and US Apple stores; 3G release imminent?

Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, Retail, iPhone

As many of our intrepid readers have pointed out, iPhones are unavailable at the online Apple Store in both the US and the UK. As we mentioned earlier in the week, cell carrier and Apple retail stores on both continents are reportedly facing shortages as well.

With all the buzz surrounding the 3G model, the international rollout and the SDK, this is just one more sign that the release of a new device is right around the corner.

While I’m obviously not privy to any official dates (or even unofficial speculation), my past experiences in the cell phone retail world lead me to believe that an early June release seems very, very probable.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

iPhone Stocks Being Replenished, Not Sold Out, Say UK Retailers

Despite the rumors of iPhones being out of stock in the UK, it’s not really true—according to the retailers themselves. Reghardware has spoken to both O2 and Carphone Warehouse, and both say they’re just tackling getting more 16GB iPhones for their online departments. Apple themselves have stock and O2 and Carphone Warehouse have iPhones available in their high street stores. Does this info mean they won’t be getting any more 8GB versions, though? Well, we can speculate that, but we don’t know. It also leaves us wondering what this news does to the iPhone 2.0 rumors. [Reghardware]
